Mary McCoy was born on February 15, 1848, the daughter of Asa Harmon McCoy and Martha Cline. On November 22, 1866, she married William Daniels (1844-1899), the son of Richard Daniels and Margaret Charles, in Pike County, Kentucky.

They had fourteen children, with thirteen living to adulthood. Besides her children, Mary also helped raise a few grandchildren. Bill and Mary had a big farm and their children and grandchildren worked the farm. They lived in a large house along the Tug River near Freeburn, Kentucky. There was a fireplace in every bedroom. Church services were held in her home as well as viewings.

Her husband died in 1899 and Mary had thirteen children living plus the farm to take care of. There were 800 acres of land. In 1904, she sold some of the land, to the disappointment of some of her children-a case which wound up in court. Mary never remarried, passing away on April 11, 1939.
