William Daniels was born October 21, 1844, the son of Richard Daniels and Margaret Charles. He married Mary McCoy, daughter of Asa Harmon McCoy and Martha Cline, in 1866.


On July 19, 1863, he enlisted in Company H, 39th Regiment, Kentucky Infantry, where he served as Private in the Union Army during the Civil War. On September 15, 1865, William was discharged in Louisville, Kentucky.


William was a farmer and land owner. He bought land in Kentucky, Virginia, and West Virginia and cut the timber and sold it and then he resold the land. He made log rafts and floated them down the river to sell. He lived on the Daniels farm, about one and a half miles from Freeburn, Kentucky.


On November 9, 1899, William passed away. He was laid to rest in the Daniels Family Cemetery in Freeburn, Kentucky.
