She married 1. William Golden on February 27, 1903 and married 2. Joseph F. Bates in 1906 in Mingo County, West Virginia. Joe and Martha lived in Huntington, West Virginia. Martha had one son, New Daniels (1898-1912), by Augustus Murphy. New was raised by his grandmother, Mary McCoy Daniels, and he was kicked by a mule and killed on the Daniels farm.
Martha was a colorful figure, being the subject of many family stories and headlines of the day. She also liked to shoot, usually for pleasure. Martha was a strong-willed woman and one to be respected. One thing can be said, she always prevailed in whatever trials and troubles she was going through. I can't imagine what the Daniels family would be like without Martha.
On September 12, 1948, Martha passed away in Huntington, West Virginia.
