The murder of Asa Bud McCoy son of Asa Harmon McCoy and Martha Patty Cline threatened to reopen the Hatfield McCoy Feud until it was found that Bud was killed by his own first cousins, Pleasant McCoy and William Dyer. He was killed by his own cousins on Peter Creek in Pike County Kentucky while on the way to visit John Gooslin. They say as he passed the two men he spoke pleasantly and as he rode away on his horse they shot him in the back. Ples McCoy was shot and captured and William Dyer escaped. But was killed soon after by the brother of Bud, Larkin Mccoy.
