Pioneer Citizen Passes Away
One of the early citizens of Portales was taken away last Monday in the death of Mrs. Joshua E. Morrison who passed away about 2 o'clock in the afternoon.
Mrs Morrison was born in Kentucky June 24, 1856, but when 11 years old moved to Texas with her parents.
In 1899 she and her husband moved to Portales and Mr. Morrison opened the first store in the little settlement which grew into the city of Portales.
Mrs Morrison was the mother of four children, two died in infancy and her son Paul El Morrison died in Portales just eleven months ago, leaving only her oldest child, Seth Morrison at Wink, Tex.
Mrs. Morrison united with the Christian church in Texas in 1879 but later moved her membership to Portales.
Funeral services were conducted from the home of her daughter in law Mrs. Paul E. Morrison Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 by her pastor Rev. C.A. Lorts.
Ed J. Neer was in charge of the interment ceremonies at the Portales cemetery. Old tie friends were the casket bearers.
Out of state relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. L. Goff a sister from Amarillo, Tex. Mrs A.B. Wright and Joe Morrison two grandchildren and her son Seth all from Wink, Tex.
