Hall County Pioneer Dies Wednesday

William M. Fore, familiarly known as Uncle Billy, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.C. Milam on West Noel street, Wednesday, March 30, 1927, at 1:15 a.m., at the age of 68 years, 4 months and 4 days.

The funeral was held from the First Christian Church this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J.L. Rice, assisted by Rev. Bandy of Wellington. Short talks were also made by Mr. D.H. Arnold and Dr. J.A. Odom. Burial was made in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Fore lived in Hall county 36 years, being one of the first settlers; operated the first grocery store in Memphis, and it is said by several that if it hadn't been for Uncle Billy giving them credit they could not have lived here; served as mayor of Memphis about 1916 and 1917; was one of Memphis' most progressive citizens.

He was a pioneer who helped to make Memphis and Hall county the leading town and county in the state.

Deceased leaves a wife, four children - Lester Fore of California, Jet and Frank Fore of Memphis, and Mrs. W.C. Milam of Memphis; one brother John Fore of Wichita Falls, three sisters, Mrs. Lou Morrison of Portales, N.M., Mrs. Johnson of Graham, and Mrs. L. Gough of Amarillo, all of whom were present at the funeral except Lester. Mrs. Gough's husband, Judge Gough, was also here.

William Fore married Nannie Eddleman on 16 January 1881 at Sherman, Texas. To this union, six children were born, two preceded their father in death.

At the age of 30 years, William Marion Fore obeyed the Savior and united with the Christian Church at Wichita Falls, Texas. He lived a devoted Christian life. He moved to Memphis, Texas in 1891 and was a charter member of the Christian church at Memphis. He served faithfully as an elder of the congregation. His Christian faith, gentle manner and unbounded love for his fellow man together with his unselfish service to God and man, endeared himself to every member of the church he served. HIs smile and firm handshake was an example of his Christian life.

William Marion Fore was the first grocery merchant in Memphis, Texas. He owned the first car dealership in Memphis, Texas. He was one of the most influential citizens of Hall County, Texas. He was mayor of Memphis, Texas for two terms and at the election, when he was elected, the bonds for building the city hall were voted.

A good Christian, a good husband, a good father and a good neighbor has gone to his reward.

Survived by three sons - Lester, Jet and Frank Fore; one daughter - Mrs. W.C. MIlam

MR. AND MRS. W. M. FORE
Mr. Fore was born i at Somerset, Ky., the son of Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Fore, and died at Memphis in 1927. He came to Texas at an early age and lived the life of a frontier cowboy in Throckmorton County, later buying and operating a livery stable at Wichita Falls. January 16, 1881 he was married to Miss Nannie Eddleman, daughter of Alford and Rosetta Eddleman, who was born in 1862 at Sherman, Texas.

They were the parents of six children: Lottie, Lester, Mrs. Lena Milam of Memphis, Jet, Carry Blanche and Frank. The sons reside in California. Lottie and Carry Blanche died at an early age in Memphis. Mr. and Mrs. Fore came to Memphis in 1891 and established the tint grocery store, selling thousands of dollars worth of groceries to the Rocking Chair Ranch in Collingsworth County and other nearby ranches each year.
