Joshua Elliot Morrison had the first Portales, NM post office along with his son Seth Morrison, who became the first Postmaster of Portales. Seth married Pearl Lang, daughter of Joseph Lang, the first sheriff of Roosevelt County. Seth was a man of many talents--a cowboy, storekeeper, bookkeeper, and farmer. He served on the Portales School board, was a State Senator (1920), and also the Roosevelt County Clerk. He kept books for the Mercantile Company, Blankenship and Woodcock, and was connected with two Portales banks at different times.
