Grace Wilkerson, 75, died March 12 at Russell City Hospital. She was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Russell County to George B. Dumler (aka Johan George B. Dumler) and Maria Katherine (Schlotthauer) Dumler.
Mrs. Wilkerson had lived all her life in Russell. She had worked as a dispatcher for the sheriff's and police departments and had been county Red Cross director for many years. She was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church. She was a member and past president of VFW Auxiliary 6240, and state musician, a member of Russell Chapter 332, Order of Eastern Star, and the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia. She was a popular pianist in old favorite tunes for senior citizens, and played weekly for Russell Rotary and the Noon Kiwanis Club.
On her 75th birthday anniversary she was honored at an afternoon reception for friends in the community, with her seven daughters and grandchildren and great grandchildren as the hosts.
The daughters are: Mrs. Harry (Joan) Hunsley, Russell; Mrs. Larry (Ruth) Sloan, Pratt; Mrs. Gary (Ida) Eichman, Derby; Mrs. Bob (Julia) Goodheart, Bunker Hill; Mrs. Bob (Linda) Webster, Derby; Mrs. Charles (Kathleen) Plum, Russell; Mrs. Gary (Carolyn) Herber, Dorrance; 23 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren. A brother, Carl Dumler, lives in San Diego.
Those of her own family who died earlier were: four sisters, Marie Meier, Elizabeth Mohl, Julia Rogg and Pauline Dumler; three brothers - Ed, Albert and Rudolph Dumler; and a grandson, David J. Steinle.
Her funeral was at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel at 10 a.m. today, Rev. John Martyn officiating.
Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
A memorial is for a scholarship to a student at Russell High School.
