Services Held Here Sunday for H.A. (Alf) Wynn
H. A. (Alf) Wynn, 77, who lived in Wellington and Dodson for 60 years before going to Childress 20 years ago, died in Northwest Texas Hospital, Amarillo, Thursday, May 3. He had been sick several months and underwent surgery two months ago.
He was a former member of the Wellington City Council, from 1938 until 1953, Mr. Wynn was associated with Stevenson Implement Company here, and few men were better known, or more highly respected by farmers of the Wellington area. Prior to that, he owned the Gulf Oil Agency here, and later for a short time in Shamrock. Earlier, he farmed for a number of years at Dodson.
Mr. Wynn was born at Rising Star August 7, 1895, the son of the late H. E. and Nancy Fleming Wynn. They came to Collingsworth County in 1903, in what was to become some years later the Dodson community. Until the organization of that town, Mr. Wynn attended school at Bitter Creek, across the state line in Oklahoma.
He was married to Miss Alda Benson, member of a pioneer Wellington family, on October 12, 1917, while she was teaching in the Dodson schools. Mr. Wynn was a member of the Church of Christ, and served two terms as worshipful master of the Wellington Masonic Lodge and as worthy patron of the Eastern Star chapter here.
Mrs. Wynn preceded him in death late last year, and that time he went to Amarillo to be with their daughter, Mrs. Imogene Robertson.
Funeral services were conducted at the Wellington Church of Christ at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, with Tom Anderson, minister, and Arthur Judd, minister of the Church of Christ in Childress, officiating.
Burial was in the family plot in Dodson Cemetery by Kelso Funeral Home. Pall bearers were nephews and included Tom Wynn, Phillip Wynn, Eddie Wynn, Raymond McDaniel, Marvin Wynn and Buddy Wynn.
Surviving Mr. Wynn are his daughter, Mrs. Robertson; two grandchildren, Mrs. Robert Whiddon of Littleton, Colorado, and Gage Robertson of Pampa; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, L.F. Wynn of Plainview; and two sisters, Mrs. Katy Gordon of San Angelo and Mrs. Lillian Rollins of Las Cruces, N.M.
