Dies Suddenly of Heart Seizure on California Visit
Mrs. R.M. Schlaf, 63, of 201 Blaine avenue, died unexpectedly from heart seizure Tuesday morning at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harold. R. Schlaf, in Los Angeles, Calif., where she and her husband had been visiting for the past two weeks. Mrs. Schlaf had not been ill, according to members of her family here.
The body is being returned to Galesburg and will arrive over the SantaFe railroad Saturday at 3:15 a.m. Funeral services are planned for Monday at 2 p.m. from the Kimber and West chapel.
Mrs. Schlaf's husband is a retired wire chief of the Galesburg division of the Burlington railroad.
She was the former Carrie Faye Ferguson and was born May 26, 1885, in Ottumwa, Iowa, where she received her schooling. She was united in marriage to Mr. Schlaf, Feb. 1, 1905, and the couple came to Galesburg from Ottumwa to reside in 1922.
Mrs. Schlaf belonged to the East Main street Congregational church and its Women's society, in addition to Violet chapter, Order of Eastern Star.
Besides her husband, and son in Los Angeles, she is survived by another son, John Schlaf, Galesburg; two daughters, Mrs. H.P. Wayman, Jr., Houston, Texas, and Miss Barbara Ann Schlaf, Galesburg, and six grandchildren. She also leaves three brothers, Jesse, Jerry and Roy Furguson, of Ottumwa, and two sisters, also of Ottumwa.
