He was born December 19, 1933 in Akron, Iowa a son of Fred C. and Iva Ora Dill Hartwig. He married Grace Woodsmall on January 30, 1960 in Canton, MO. She passed away on March 19, 1999.
He farmed his entire life. He had worked for Flint McRoberts, Russell Riney, Fredrick Diamond, and the Glaston Boat Factory in Quincy. He drove a truck for Jack Marks and Jim Rogers. He was a fomer member of the Eagles Club and he liked to dance with his wife at the VFW. He was also well known for cutting firewood and delivering it to people in the community.
Survivors include his children, Robert Dennis Hartwig of Brooklyn Park, MN and Peggy Sue Ward of Southaven, MS; one granddaughter, Deanne Lea Hartwig of Brooklyn Park, MN; 4 step granddaughters, Aaron DeMoss, Tammy DeMoss, Chrissy DeMoss and Jerry DeMoss; two great grandchildren, Jaymz Janssen and Matthew Woelm and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers David and J.C. Hartwig, six sisters, Francis Scott, Nellie McCollister, Kay Dochterman, Mary Logsdon, Opal Rubles, Dorothy Oaks.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home in Canton, MO with Rev. Paul Kinney officiating. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton, MO. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Davis Funeral Home, Canton, MO.
The family suggests memorials be made to to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Disabled American Veterans in care of Davis Funeral Home, P.O. Box 108, Canton, MO 63435.
