Anders Hansen was born on March 14, 1875 in Martofte, Stubberup parish, Odense county, Denmark, the youngest son of Hans and Frederikke Christiansen. He was confirmed in Dalby Church of April 14, 1889 at age 14. He arrived at New York on March 23, 1892 aboard the S. S. Island. That fall he moved to Alpha, Jackson County, Minnesota and he got a job working on the farm the next spring. In America he was called Andrew Hansen or Andrew C. Hansen. Eventually he saved up enough money and bought a farm in Enterprise Township where he farmed for many years. He married Mary Erickson on September 12, 1907 at Lakefield, Jackson County, Minnesota and had 3 children: Nellie in 1908, Hank in 1911, and Albert in 1914. The family was a member of the Hauges Evangelical Lutheran Church where all the children were baptised. Andrew served as the president of the church for many years. Andrew's wife Mary died in 1949. In 1961 he came to live with his son Albert in Estherville, Iowa (not far from Jackson) where he died at the age of 90 on October 22, 1965. (Biography by Brandon Hess)

A. C. Hansen Dies at 90
Andrew C. Hansen, 90, of Estherville, died early yesterday morning at the home of his son, Albert, in Estherville.

Andrew Hansen was born in March 1875 in Martofte, Fyn, Denmark, the son of Fredricka and Hans Christensen. He attended public schools in Denmark. In March 1892 he came to the United States and settled in Madelia, Minn., later to move to Jackson County, Minn., where he farmed until he retirement.

He was married to Mary Erickson Sept. 12, 1907, in Lakefield, Minn. His wife died June 30, 1949. In January 1961 Mr. Hansen moved to Estherville to live with his son, Albert.

He is survived by two sons, Henry of Jackson, Minn., and Albert of Estherville; six grandchildren, Mrs. Albert Hiatala of Babbitt, Minn., Clifford D. Hansen of Minneapolis, Mrs. Marvin Hall of Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs. Raymond Skaggs of Fairmont, Mrs. Bruce Hinds and Jackson and Jurene Hansen of Estherville; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hansen was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter. Mr. Hansen was an active member of Houges Lutheran Church and served as president of the church for a number of years. Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Jackson, Rev. Harley H. Schmitt officiating. Burial will be at Houges Cemetery.
