Pioneer Belmont Township Farmer Called By Death

The Belmont community was bowed in sadness when news was learned Monday evening, December 29, the Mrs. Edwin Erickson had died suddenly at the Halloran hospital in this city where she was hurriedly taken on Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Erickson was a lady held in high esteem among her countless friends and neighbors and her going away is mourned by her admiring friends who held her in such high esteem because of the many kind acts she accomplished while living the Christian and busy life she always practiced.

Pernillie Fredrika Erickson was born June 11, 1908, at the Andrew Hansen farm home, two miles east of Hauge's church, in Belmont township. She was baptized and confirmed in Hauge's Lutheran church. On March 31, 1937, she was married to Edwin Erickson at the parsonage in Lakefield. They made their home on the Erickson farmstead. This happy union was blessed with a daughter, Edith.

She began feeling unwell last Friday and on Sunday morning was rushed by ambulance to the hospital in Jackson. But despite medical care and nursing she failed rapidly and died Monday evening of pneumomeningitis.

Mrs. Erickson was given a winsome personality and good leadership. For many years she taught Sunday school and served several times as superintendent of Hauge's Sunday school. Under her leadership the school work progressed. Her sudden departure will be very noticeably felt in this branch of the church work. She had been taught by the Master Teacher and loved to tell others and her own about Him. She also served on many committees and as an officer of the ladies' aid.

She was an unusually good mother, a faithful wife and loving daughter and sister, who will be missed so much. Her sudden departure will be so keenly felt by all, both in the home and church. She is deeply mourned by her husband, Edwin Erickson, the young daughter, Edith, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hansen, brother Henry and wife, and brother, Albert and family, a large number of relatives and literally a host of friends.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. N. O. Nelson were held at the Erickson home at 1:30 and at Hauge's church at two o'clock on Wednesday, December 31. There was a very large attendance of relatives and friends. Mrs. Gordon Elness and Lyda Sogge sang two appropriate songs accompanied by the pianist, Doris Nelson. There were an unusually large number of in memoriam gifts to W. C. A. L., Orphan Homes and missions. Interment in Hauge's cemetery was conducted by Sathe and Son.
