Leo Giere of Wheeler Takes Life After Long Illness.
Leo Giere of near Wheeler, a veteran of the World war and recently discharged from the Veterans' hospital at Mendota, hanged himself at his home Monday. He was found in the hay loft by his brother, Martin. Funeral services were conducted at the home this afternoon, the Rev. Peterson of Wheeler officiating. Interment was made in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery at Wheeler.
Giere was gassed while in service and later developed double pneumonia, again contracting the disease after he arrived from France. He was discharged from the Mendota hospital in March.
Despondency, following the long period of ill health, is given as the cause of his act. He was 38 years old and unmarried.
