Nettie Mary Larkin Harrelson Cox was the daughter of Catherine Mallett Larkin and Frank Larkin. She was born in Hunts Hill, Nevada County, California, which was the "proper" name for Gouge Eye, California (that no longer exists)(near present day Dutch Flat).

According to the Native Daughters of the Golden West Pioneer Roster, she lived in Hunts Hill until she was 12, Banta, for two years, Snelling, for 24 years, and Hayward, California for 23 years.

At the time of the 1880 Federal Census (Merced, Snelling, California District 42), she was 22 years old and still living at home and working as a dressmaker.

According to "The Merced Star" (February 22, 1883; page 2), she married David A. Harrelson on February 20, 1883 in Snelling. She was later married to John Cox.

The Merced Express Merced, California Saturday, February 24, 1883 also had the following article: MARRIED At the residence of the bride's parents, in Dry Creek Settlement, Merced county, February 20, 1883, by Rev. B.F. Burris, Mr. David A Harrelson and Miss Nettie Larkin.

Nettie was the mother of Helen G. Harrelson, Cecil D. Harrelson and Alma P. Cox.

The 1910 Federal Census for Hayward, California showed she was 52 years old, married but living with her sister and mother on B Street, with her daughter, Alma P. (Phyllis) Cox, age 15. The census showed she had three children and all were still living at the time. According to the census, she had been married for 17 years and her husband was born in Texas.

Cemetery records show she lived in Pacific Grove, California and was 64 years old at the time of her death. The undertaker was listed as Pratt and closest friend or relative listed was her sister, Mrs. Heyer (Katherine Larkin Heyer).

Her grave has no headstone.
