Katherine ("Kate") Larkin Cassity Heyer was the daughter of Frank Larkin and Catherine (also "Kate") Mallett Larkin. She was born in Hunts Hill, California, which no longer exists (near Dutch Flat).

In the 1880 census she was listed as 18 years old [1862].

She married Dr. Sherwood Cassity about 1890 in Merced.

In the 1900 census she was listed as age 37 [1863]and living in Alameda County (Eden township) with her mother, sister Nettie, Nettie's husband John, two nieces and a nephew, and her brother George, while her husband was still living in Snelling. Her first husband, Dr. Sherwood O. Cassity died in 1908.

The 1910 Federal Census for Hayward, California showed she was a widow at that time (listed as Kate L. Cassity), age 38 [1872] and livng on B Street with her mother, sister, and two nieces.

In July 1913 she re-married Charles W. Heyer in Santa Cruz. He was an Alameda County Supervisor and owned the Golden West Brewery. They were prominent in the community and Heyer Boulevard is named after him. Both she and her husband were mentioned in several news articles published in the Hayward Record.

On an immigration form dated December 7, 1921 aboard the S.S. Maui arriving from Honolulu to the Port of San Francisco, she said she was born in 1870. Apparently, the older she became, the more years she shaved off her birthdate.

In the 1930 census she gave her age as 62 [1868]. It showed they were living on Post Street at the time. Cemetery records show that she died of chronic myocarditis.

Her grave has no headstone. Cemetery record shows she was 75 years 6 months and 7 days old at the time of death (indicating she was born in 1860). Her brother said she was born in 1862 and I believe that is more likely correct.

She was President of the Hayward Chapter of the Native Daughters of the Golden West around 1910.
