The funeral for William Flemon Ayers, 86, of Max Meadows, who died Saturday in a Charlottesville nursing home, was held at 3 p.m. Monday at Barnett Funeral Chapel. The officiating ministers were the Rev. Clarence Taylor and the Rev. Don Scott. Interment was in West End Cemetery.
The deceased was a retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railway Co.
Surviving are four sons, William G. Ayers, Roanoke, Fred L. Ayers, Christiansburg, Frank N. Ayers, Max Meadows, Roy E. Ayers, Hampton; three daughters, Mrs. Ben R. White, Max Meadows, Mrs. Howard C. McAllister, Wytheville, Mrs. Eldridge W. Reynolds, Austinville; four brothers, Thomas Ayers, Alex Ayers, Chester Ayers, Galax, Louis Ayers, Burlington, N.C.; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
