Mrs. Fleeda Galley, 94, a Traer resident years ago, died last Saturday afternoon in a convalescent home at Amarillo, Texas where she had lived the last eleven months. She had never been very seriously ill in her life. According to her family, she was simply worn out. Services were held in the Assembly of God church at Hereford, Texas on Tuesday afternoon, after which the body was returned to Traer by rail accompanied by her eldest son Lester, and wife, of Hereford. They arrived late Wednesday afternoon. Graveside services were conducted by the Rev. C. Howell Bischoff, Congregational pastor in Buckingham cemetery at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon attended by a company of relatives and old friends of the family. Interment was on the Childs family lot beside her husband Charles Galley who died in 1934. A son Cyrus and wife of Moline, Illinois joined the Mr. and Mrs. Lester Galley for the burial service here and a nephew Myron Galley son of the late Hollis Galley and his sister, Mrs. C. E. Holt both of Battle Creek, Michigan were also here. The son Walter of Center, Colorado attended the services Tuesday in Texas.
Mrs. Galley was born at Polo, Illinois on February 9, 1865 a daughter of Abe and Margaret Childs and was a small girl when she accompanied her parents to Tama county, the family settling on a farm in Carroll township. Mr. Childs was the first steward and his wife the first matron of the Tama county Home and poor farm at the time it was established north of Toledo. After several years, they acquired a farm southwest of Traer. Their old farm home is now owned and operated by a grandson, Floyd Childs and family.
Fleeda Childs was married here February 1, 1888 to Charles P. Galley who was a painter and decorator in Traer, many years. In 1908, the Galley family moved to Dimmitt, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Galley returned to Traer in 1926 to care for her aged mother who died in 1933. Mr. Galley died here the following year. Following her husband's death, Mrs. Galley returned to Texas with her son Lester and assisted in the home of her son-in-law Dixon turner whose wife, the former Mary Galley had died January 5, 1934 after surgery, leaving three young children motherless. During most of her years in Texas Mrs. Galley lived with her son Lester and family, at Hereford until last year, when she was well cared for in a comfortable Amarillo rest home. She had been a member of a church at Hereford 25 years or more
A son, Hollis Galley, died in Grinnell Iowa in December, 1936. Besides the sons, Lester, Walter and Cyrus, she leaves 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Mrs. Galley is the last of the Abe Childs family. Two brothers Roscoe and Fred J. Childs, and two sisters, Mary Rogers and Lizzie Kolp preceded her in death.
