C. P. Galley Dead at His Home Here After Long Illness
Cancer of Stomach Proves Fatal to Traer Painter, 75 Years Old

CAME TO TAMA COUNTY WITH PARENTS IN 1870 Lived in Texas for Eighteen Years

Funeral services for C. P. Galley, 75 years old, who died about 6 a. m. Wednesday at his home in Traer following a long illness of cancer of the stomach, will be held at 2:30 o’clock this Friday afternoon at the local Congregational church with the Rev. Alvin H. Boettcher, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Buckingham cemetery. Mr. Galley had been in failing health for more than two years and was confined to his home during the last several months of his life.

Charles Peter Galley was born February 9, 1859 at Niles, Ohio and spent his early childhood in Pennsylvania. He came to Tama county in 1870, settling with his parents at Toledo. On February 1, 1888, he was married to Miss Fleeda Childs, near Traer. The couple moved to southern Iowa and lived there on a farm for ten years. Then they came back to Traer, where for ten years he worked as a painter. In 1908 they moved to Texas and were engaged there in farming for eighteen years. Seven years ago, they again re-turned to Traer, where Mr. Galley again followed the painter’s trade as long as health permitted.

One daughter, Mary, preceded Mr. Galley in death in Texas in January of this year. He is survived by his wife and by four sons — Lester of Hereford Texas, who has been here for several weeks assisting in his care; Cyrus of Moline, Illinois; Hollis of Enid, Oklahoma; and Walter of Hereford, Texas who moved to that state from Traer only two or three years ago. There are ten grandchildren. Mr. Galley also is survived by a half-brother, W. D. Galley, of Cortland, Ohio; and a half-sister, Mrs. Martha Reed, of Toronto, Canada. The decedent was a faithful member of Ripley Congregational church during his residence in Traer and served the church for several years as deacon. He was a good citizen.
