Bernice Frederick "Fred" Arterburn was born at the Johnson-Flowers farm at Lamb, Kentucky. Gus and Lura moved back to Pikesville and purchased the Patton Arterburn farm about 1924, and lived there until moving to Flippin about 1935.

Fred with his veteran brothers, Rex and Nello. This composite painted portrait made from their service photos was specially created for their parents after WWII. (Uniforms are without combat service decorations or medals earned.)

Fred Arterburn remembered as a boy gently tickling bees in the logs of this old crib with stalks of grass to make them buzz for amusement. This crib on the Arterburn farm at Pikesville was built either by his grandfather or great grandfather.
