Mr. Salyer went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at his home in Cyril. He was 80 years, 5 months, and 20 days old.

Freeman Leon Salyer was born August 31, 1932, in Cement, Oklahoma to Steven and Lacey (Clift) Salyer. He grew up in Cement where he attended school. In 1951, Freeman began serving his country in the United States Army where he fought in the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged in 1955, Freeman married Nadine Stewart on February 11, 1955. The two were married for 42 years when Nadine passed away in 1997. He traveled all over Oklahoma and Texas while he worked in the oilfield. Freeman worked as a welder for several horse trailer manufacturers. He worked for Robertson Oilfield Service, Quachita Exploration, and Ward Petroleum until retiring in 2000. Even after retirement, Freeman continued to farm. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to gospel music, and dancing. Of all the things he enjoyed, he loved spending time with his family the most. Freeman was a member of the Family Life Church since 1974. He was a strong man of God. His faith in God was an inspiration to everyone all the way until the day he was taken home. Even in the midst of his battle, he stood strong never faltering with his walk with the Lord. He touched everyone's life that he came in contact with and was known as "Poppy" to most. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
