Funeral services for Leonard Lawrence GAUMER, 51, who died from a self-inflicted bullet wound Friday morning, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian church. The Rev. James KIMSEY of the Christian church will officiate and burial will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Gaumer left for work at the Sinclair filling station, corner of Main and Fourth streets, at 7:15 a.m. Friday and when he did not arrive his brother, Floyd, and other relatives became alarmed.
His body was found at 2:05 p.m. by Deputy Sheriff Dee HOLLOWAY a quarter of a mile west of the Citizens cemetery on a side road. A bullet fired from a .22 calibre rifle had entered his right temple. Leonard had been in failing health for the past several years. Practically all of his life had been spent in Rochester.
Leonard Lawrence [GAUMER], son of Thomas Jefferson "T.J." and Florence Fannie {MANNING} GAUMER, was born in Sidell, Ill. on April 10, 1904. On June 26, 1934, at Alvin, Ill., he was married to Mable KELLEY, of this city. Mr. Gaumer was a member of the First Christian church and at the time of his death was serving as a trustee. He also was a member of Rochester I.O.O.F. lodge.
For the past several years he and his partner, Ralph SHELTON, operated the Sinclair service station on Main street.
Survivors are his wife, 530 West Ninth street; one son, John Kelley [GAUMER], and one daughter, Carolyn Jane [GAUMER], both at home; his mother, Mrs. T. J. GAUMER, R.R. 4, this city; one brother, Floyd W. GAUMER, this city; three sisters: Mrs. Helen BYROAD and Mrs. Lois WILSON, both of this city, and Mrs. Madge STEWART, Decatur; and several nieces and nephews.
