Lura Mae Evans, 90, of San Augustine, Texas passed away Thursday, April 25, 2019 in Nacogdoches Medical Center.
Lura Mae was born in San Augustine on June 7, 1928 to Johnny Adkins and Aretha Day Marshall Adkins. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker and a lifelong resident of Grapevine Community. She loved spending time with her family and her church family. She enjoyed gardening, doing word puzzles, watching her soaps, and drinking Coca Cola.
Lura was preceded in death by her husband, Elzie Evans; daughter, Laura Eddings; daughter-in-law, Lounan Evans; three grandchildren, four brothers, and four sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Noland Evans of San Augustine, Texas, Jimmy Evans and wife, Pam, of Broaddus, Texas, Steve Evans of San Augustine, and Bobby Joe Evans of San Augustine; daughters, Elsie Watson and husband, Johnny, Debbie McDaniel, Virginia Bunting, Mary Lou Sowell and husband, Ricky, all of San Augustine, Donna Sensat and husband, Billy Wayne of Bronson, Texas, Rita Dailey and husband, Ronny, and Peggy Foster, also of San Augustine; brother, Carol Adkins of San Augustine; 22 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas and again Sunday, April 28, 2019 beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time at Grapevine Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will begin at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Grapevine Missionary Baptist Church in San Augustine County under the direction of Starr Funeral Home with Rev. Welton Blackmon and Rev. Kevin Grayhouse officiating.
Burial will follow services in Dickerson Cemetery, Grapevine, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Rodney Coulter, Cody Evans, Michael Sowell, Tristian Evans, Dakota Saenz, Sam McGee, Cameron Beasley, and Trey Saenz.
