George O. Houk 45 of 922 Hayne street died suddenly while walking in the 1104 block of Hayne street at 10 a.m. Sunday. He was taken by emergency ambulance to Ottumwa hospital and was pronounced dead at arrival. His death was attributed to a heart attack. He was ill of a heart condition for some time.

He was the son of George C. & Sophrona Overtuff Houk and was born in Ottumwa August 4, 1907.

He was a resident here all his life. He was employed by John Morrell & CO for the past 15 years. He was a member of U.P.W.A. CIO :Local I.

His marriage to Blanche Sparks took place Oct. 16, 1935 in Ottumwa. She survives. In addition 3 sons; Devern, George & Steve Houk and 3 daughters; Kay, Connie and Vicki Houk all of Ottumwa; and his mother Sophrana Houk of Ottumwa; 3 sisters; Mrs. Jack Kirk, Mrs. John Gayer and Mrs. Earl Grunwell; all of Ottumwa and a cousin W.C. Overturf of Ottumwa with whom he was reared.

He was preceded in death by 1 son and 1 daughter in infancy; his father George Houk of Ottumwa in 1940 and 2 brothers.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Johnson funeral home with the Rev. W.R. Friend of the Pentecostal church of God. Burial will be in Shaul cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Bernie Houk, Alva Houk, Vern Houk, Lloyd Overturff, Delmas Overturf and Will Davis.
