She is survived by four children, Fredia Cox and husband, Ernie Cox of Centennial CO, Carl West and wife, Robyn West of Tucson, AZ, Gordon West and wife, Ellen West of Peralta, NM, Denise Daniel and husband, Mike Daniel of Lubbock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Louise Woods of Fredericksburg, WV; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Marvin C. West; two sisters, Claudie Tennison, Thelma Byrd; and three brothers, Albert Shipp, Harmon Shipp, Marvin Shipp.
Opal was born in Mullins, Texas, on Dec. 2, 1920, to Claude Franklin Shipp and Ruby Laura Shipp.
Opal was a devoted wife and mother. She loved and enjoyed family gatherings, cooking, gardening, and sewing. She worked for many local bakeries in Lubbock, Texas, as a cake decorator for many years. She loved her church and enjoyed bible study. She always had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh. She was most proud of her family and her marriage to her husband, Marvin.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, in Resthaven Memorial Park.
