Thelma Lois Byrd, 80, of Floyd died Thursday, April 6, 2006, at Odessy Hospice inpatient unit in Amarillo.

She was born Sept. 25, 1925, to Claude and Ruby Stevens Shipp in Mullin, Texas.

She married G.C. Byrd on July 24, 1943, in Cross Plains, Texas. They moved to Roosevelt County, where they farmed for many years. She was a homemaker and member of the Melrose Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; a brother, Albert Shipp, and a sister, Claudie Tennison.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Chadwick (and husband, James) of Amarillo; a son, Terry Byrd (Lita) of Floyd; two sisters, Opal West (Marvin) of Lubbock and Louise Woods (Lano) of Fredricksburg, Va.; two brothers, Olen Shipp (Frankie) of Topeka, Kan., and Harmon Shipp (Barbara) of Pampa, Texas; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The Rev. Otho Rogers will officiate services.

Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews.

Arrangements are by Muffley Funeral Home.
