Death of J. P. Woodson
James P. Woodson died yesterday morning at the residence of his son-in-law, where he had been making his home for several years past.
The end was not unexpected, for he had been failing for the last few years, and quite rapidly with in the past few months.
Mr. Woodson was born in North Carolina in 1818, and while a mere boy moved to Kentucky and worked at the blacksmith's trade.
In 1854 he sold his possessions there and moved with his family, having married in Kentucky, to Texas, settling in Honey Grove, where he continued to live until his death. He lived a temperate, active and industrious life, and the many noble and sterling qualities of his character made him friends with all whom he became acquainted.
Mrs. T. H. Ligon, Mrs. G. A. Dailey, Mrs. J. S. Boone (with whom he made his home) and Mrs. J. S. Kendall are his surviving children now living in Honey Grove. Three sons are living in other parts of the country.
He had for years been a member of the Methodist church and was a Master Mason, which order took his remains in charge, and after services at 4 o'clock yesterday evening at the Methodist church, they were laid at rest in Oakwood cemetery by the side of his wife who proceeded him a few years.
