Lemuel D. is the son of Lemuel B. Scarbrough and his second wife, Nancy Parrison McRae. He was their youngest child and born after his father's death. Lemuel D. first married Emma L. Redford in about 1877 in Lane County, Oregon. Their known children are Marvin McRea, Eba Edward and Lemuel Duncan. Jr. Lemuel Jr died at 3 years of age. After Emma's death he married Clara Belle Cochran.
His children with Clara are: Emerson Monroe, Carlyle S., Dewey, Nancy Gladys, Crystal, Francis and Esther.
Dr. Scarbrough attended Oxford College and graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1875 with a medical degree. He came to Crewell, Lane, Oregon and began his medical practice. Dr. Scarbrough also pioneered the prune industry in Lane county, at one time he had the largest orchard in Lane County. He also experimented with growing Filberts.
He was survived by two daughters, Miss Esther Scarbrough of Oakland, California and Mrs U. A. (Crystal) Laine; and three sons, Dr. Marvin McRae Scarbrough of New Haven, Connecticut, Emerson Monroe Scarbrough of Roseburg, Oregon and Carlyle S. Scarbrough of Creswell, Oregon.
