Martha was one of 12 known children born to Lemuel B Scarbrough and Nancy Parison McRae Scarbrough. She married John Truman Wight 29 June 1870 in Calhoun Co, AL. They had six known children: Minna, Annie Tallulah, Alice Ruth, Nannie Alberta, Carrie Anna, and Alfred Theirs. The family moved from AL to Navarro Co, TX and finally to Lamar Co, TX. Martha died in a buggy accident. She and two of her daughters had crossed the railroad tracks when an approaching train scared the horse. The daughters were thrown free of the buggy and recovered. But, Martha was mortally injured when the buggy overturned on her as the horse fled.
