Rebecca was the fifth of 12 children born to Lemuel B. and Nancy Parison McRae Scarbrough. She married Andrew Marion Whiteside 1 Aug 1865 in Calhoun Co, AL.

They had six children: Andrew Jackson; Lemuel Monroe; Margaret Isabella who married Berryman Dudley Whiteside (her 2nd cousin, once removed); Nancy Parison who married C. S. Borders; William Columbus who married Nora Swan; and Whitefield Absolum who married Loma Geneva Patterson.
