Obituary
Funeral services was be held Monday, November 22, 2010 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Mable Marie Bernard, age 83, the former Mable Meche, who passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at her residence in Scott.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. The Rev. Albert Nunez, pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Washington, will officiate at the services.

Musical selections will be provided by Julie Broussard, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be Amazing Grace, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, How Great Thou Art, and Here I Am Lord and The Old Rugged Cross.

Mrs. Bernard was a native of Cankton and a resident of Carencro all of her life. She was a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro. Mrs. Bernard was a member of the Bonne Mort Society, St. Anne Society and the Ladies Altar Society.

Survivors include six sons, Donald Ray Bernard, Daniel Bernard and his wife, Mona, Gary James Bernard, Eddie Dean Bernard and his wife, Sheila, Neil Anthony Bernard and his wife, Debbie, all of Carencro and Theo Joseph Bernard, Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Lafayette; four daughters, Judy Ann Melancon and her husband, Danny Melancon, Sr., of Mire, Cathy Marie Bergeron and her husband, Kendrick, of Scott, Christine Marie Bernard and her fiancé, Duke Bonin, of Lafayette and Peggy Sue Smith and her husband, Jeffrey, of Mire; twenty-four grandchildren, Heather Watkins, Jill Melancon, Danny Melancon, Jr., Devin Melancon, Derrick Melancon, Dylan Melancon, Patricia Bernard, Blake Bernard, Kevin Leger, LaKayla Stelly, Lannie Romero, Ronald James "RJ" Romero, Lyndsey Romero, Christopher Bernard, Jodi Cloteaux, Joshua Smith, Jeremy Smith, Jesse Smith, Claire Bernard, Sarah Bernard, Casey Domingue, Jacob Domingue, Virginia Domingue and Brooke Bourgeois; twenty-seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Laurence Quebedeaux of Carencro.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Theo Bernard, Sr.; three brothers, Jerry Meche, Gladu Meche and Eddie Meche; four sisters, Mathilde Trahan, Etha Breaux, Nolia Daigle and Edoila Alleman.

Pallbearers were Donald Bernard, Daniel Bernard, Theo Bernard, Jr., Gary Bernard, Eddie Bernard and Neil Bernard.

Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue was in charge of arrangements.
