Ida Wilkerson Dies at 87
Hamilton -- Mrs Ida B. Wilkerson, 87, native of Iowa and resident of the Bitter Root valley since 1888, died Friday at a Hamilton hospital following a brief illness. She was a widow of Nathaniel E. Wilkerson, veteran forest ranger of the Bitter Root, and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Overturf, Darby pioneer settlers. She is survived by a son, Claud (sic) R. Waugh of Spokane, two daughters, Mrs. Fred Peterson and Mrs. Clark Gray of Hamilton, a sister, Mrs Nora Williamson of Libby, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Eva Overturf of Hamilton, several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born Aug. 30, 1870, at Carthage, Iowa. She was a member of the Christian Church and active until her recent illness. She came with her parents to the Garrison area in the early 1880 era, and was present at the time of the Driving of the Golden Spike on the Northern Pacific Railway. Her marriage to Mr. Wilkerson took place here August 22, 1928, and he died several years ago. Surviving him were a son, Byron, and three daughters, Vivian Malone, Virginia Broom and Maude Newbury. The latter lives at Palo Alto, Calif., the others at Seattle. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dowling Chapel with the Rev. James Hastings officiating. Burial will be in Lone Pine Cemetery.
