Mary was the daughter of Florida Sweat and Silas Thompson. In 1916, Mary, along with 4 other sisters, was taken away from her family by the State of GA and placed in foster homes. Mary was placed on the farm of John and Maggie White in Haralson County, Georgia. She always considered them as family, thus believed to be buried in their family plot with her husband. She may have been adopted as some of her legal papers state her maiden name as "White" and not Thompson. . The 1930 Federal Census has Mary enumerated as "Thompson" a border whereas in the 1940 Federal Census, she is a "White" a daughter. Her husband's obit listed her as "Mary White Floyd".
Although Mary and Minnie were told that they were maternal twins, Mary's birthday was recorded as September 15, 1912 on her Social Security application and many of her other legal records, whereas Minnie's was September 7th. Their younger sister Louise was born September 15,1913 and photos proved Louise and Mary were more alike in appearance than Minnie. Since the mandatory date for issuing birth certificates in Florida was 1918, none were issued at birth and were separated from their parents at an early age in 1916 while in GA.
As a result of an auto accident, Mary had below the knee leg amputation at the age of 22 years old. She had one son named Donald born 1950, who died at the age of 4 from T. B. She married Augustus Floyd. Mary was an excellent cook of southern home-styled food and did designed and made most of her clothes. She was a large lady with flaming red hair and deep brown eyes.
