Services for Alvin Sanders, 79, of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Ken Jones and Irvin Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Athens. Mr. Sanders died Tuesday. He was born Aug. 8, 1908, in Murchison and lived his life in Henderson County. He was a Sand Springs Baptist Church member. Survivors include his wife, Sara Sanders, Athens; one son, James Sanders, Trinidad; four daughters, Thelma Brown and Faye McCool, both of Athens, Peggy Haynes, Houston and Dee Hendrix, Texas City; one brother, Fulton Sanders, Murchison; four sisters, Thelma Andress, Josie Cantrell, Ola Mae Mosley and Grace Navy, all of Athens; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are scheduled to include Johnny Wilson, Jody Wilson, Jerry McCool, Michael Shellenburger, Ricky Smiley and Kenneth Dillard. The family is scheduled to receive friends between 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
