Don Byrd, 83, was called into the presence of the Lord on Friday May 22, 2020 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton, Texas. Mr. Byrd was born in Natchez, Mississippi on June 6, 1936 to Mr. Ben Byrd and Mrs. Mary Etta Arnold Byrd.
Mr. Byrd was a member of the Christ Life Fellowship. He served his country in the US Navy. He was retired from the City of Denton, where he was the communications manager after many years of service. He loved to spend time laughing and joking with his friends, but most of all he loved sharing his love for his heavenly Father. He loved his family very much and will be dearly missed.
Mr. Byrd is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Mary Etta Arnold Byrd; brothers, Tom Allen “Jack” Byrd, Dexter Byrd and Bennie Byrd; sisters, Syble Smith, Joann Hollingsworth, and Geneva Floyd; son, Donald “Donny” Byrd; and long-time dear friend and brother in Christ, Warren Litzman.
Family members remaining to cherish his memories are sister, Guynell Hall of Natchez, MS; daughter, Tina Hughes and her husband Phil of Lake Dallas, TX; son, Kenneth Byrd and his wife Tracy of Sanger, TX; daughter, Darla Barlov and her husband Bob of London, England; his 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at The Bridge Church, located at 4582 Fishtrap Road, Denton, TX 76208. Funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm following the visitation. Burial will be at Cooper Creek Cemetery, located next to The Bridge Church.
Pallbearers are Shawn Ryan, Kenneth Berry, Bradley Fisher, Levi Byrd, Kyle Landmesser, and Ryan Paschall.
Alternate Pallbearers are Jason Hughes, Phil Hughes, and Rod McTaggart.
A very special thank you goes out to Robbie Litzman for being such a faithful friend for many years.
For the safety of our family and visitors, the family requests that visitors wear a mask and maintain appropriate social distancing measures for visitation and funeral services.
