Frank A. Bruno, 86 a former longtime resident of Pleasant Street, Westerly, and late of Chestnut Court, died June 17, 2007, in The Westerly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Yolanda (Parrilla) Bruno.
Born in Westerly, he was the son of the late Rico and Palma (Sculco) Bruno.
He was owner and operator of Bruno's Market and later worked with his family at the Westerly Packing Company until his retirement.
Frank was a devout Catholic and a lifelong communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
A meat cutter and butcher all his life, he was well known for his physical strength. He was an accomplished musician, and he looked forward to family gatherings where he loved to play his guitar and sing. He was also an accomplished cook and enjoyed cooking for his family, and especially for his kind and wonderful friends at the Westerly Yacht Club.
Frank was also very proud of his Italian heritage and of the fact that he was the grandson of those early pioneers who came from Corigliano, Calabria, who settled here in Westerly. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his children, Palma and Medoro "Sam" Trombino, Rico and Linda Bruno and Frank and Mary Bruno; his grandchildren, Medoro and Bruno Trombino, Tina Dillon, and Frank P. Bruno; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Yolanda, Isabella and Bruno Joseph Trombino and Samantha and Matthew Dillon; and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Theresa Romanella, Dilly LaPietra and Louise Parrilla.
Calling hours will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to the church. Interment will be in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly.
