BIRCHWOOD NURSING AND REHABILITATION CENTER, NANTICOKE.

Edmund S. Wiernusz of East Harrison Street, Tunkhannock, died Wednesday at the
Birchwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nanticoke Born
No 16, 1918, Wilkes-Barre, he was son of the late Michael and Frances Rokosz Wiernusz and stepson of the late Elizabeth Wiernusz.
He was a World War II veteran of the Merchant Marines, serving in the Pacific, Atlantic and Middle Eastern War Zones.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 510, Black Walnut; a member of Labor Union Local 130, Scranton; a member of the Church of Nativity BVM, Tunkhannock, and its Holy Name Society.
He was also a 3rd Degree Knight of the Father Francis Perkowski Knights of Columbus and a 35-year member of the St. Alphonse Retreat League.
He was an avid gardener, fisherman and a baseball fan.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard, and sister, Caroline Wiernusz.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Julia Ciprich Wiernusz; sons, Ronald, Kingston; John "Yogi," Lansdale; daughters, Frani Wiernusz, Wilkes-Barre; Nancy Hutch, Tunkhannock; brothers, Michael and Chester, both of Tunkhannock; sisters, Mary Chellis, Anne Stroka and Mrs. John Kobylski, all of Tunkhannock; nine grandchildren; an uncle, numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with a Mass of Christian Burial at in the Church of Nativity BVM in Tunkhannock.
Interment will be in Pieta Cemetery, Tunkhannock.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial donations may be made to the Church of the Nativity BVM, 99 East Tioga Street, Tunkhannock, 18657.
