Rufus was a son of Henry C. Taylor, a soldier in the War of 1812, and Jane Hamilton. He was married to Elizabeth Fannie Robinson, daughter of Benjamin Oliger Robinson, also a soldier in the War of 1812, in Knox County, Indiana in 1849. Both Henry, from Ohio, and Benjamin, from New Jersey, traveled together to the vicinity of Vincennes, Indiana, just after 1840. Newton Taylor, son of Rufus and Elizabeth, is my Great Grandfather.

Rufus married Elizabeth Fannie Robinson, March 8, 1849, in Knox County, Indiana. They appear in the 1850, 1860, and 1870, Knox County, census records. Rufus sold his 50-acres of land in Knox County, for $700.00, to Nancy Elliott, on October 21st, 1871. He appears with two of his brothers Lot G., and Samual A., Taylor, in the 1876, Terre Haute, Indiana, city directory. Rufus is not listed in the 1877, directory. The 1880, Vigo County, Indiana census Elizabeth is listed as a widow. The 1887, Terre Haute, Indiana, city directory shows "Elizabeth F. Taylor, widow of Rufus". From the book "America's Greatest Pioneer Family" by Ira Taylor, in the Taylor chapter, on page 298, he writes that, "The doctor advised him to take his wife west for her health." Rufus sold his 50-acres of land in Knox County, for $700.00, to Nancy Elliott, on October 21st, 1871, and, "bought a span of mules, a team of horses, two cows. He drove to Terre Haute, Indiana. Here he met his brother William, to make the trip together to Kansas. Rufus had a stroke of paralysis and had to remain in Terre Haute until he soon died." Where he got his information is not known.

The only children I cannot locate for Find-A-Grave are Jane Taylor-Walker, who died before 1900; Molly Taylor, who died sometime before 1870; and Ethelinda "Effie" Taylor-Gilmore, who died before 1991.

I honor my 2nd Great Grandfather and his life in my third book in the family series regarding my maternal side has now been published called The Taylor Connection. This book not only details my Taylor family, but also my Brock, Brockschmidt (Brocksmith), Earp, Randolph, Smith Connections and much more. Like the Atterson/Auterson Connection and Attersons/Autersons Connected, this book is loaded with pictures, interviews, diagrams, documents, and many other factual proofs.
