Veryl E. Lanning, 50, of Berwick RD 3, was pronounced dead on arrival Thursday afternoon at 5:05 at Berwick Hospital, victim of an apprent heart attack.
Born in Hanover Township, March 21, 1926, son of Carl E. and Elizabeth Mowrer Lanning, White Haven RD 1, he was employed in the maintenance department of Wise Foods, Berwick. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II.
Mr. Lanning presently was treasurer of Elks Lodge 1138, Berwick, and served as exalted ruler in 1971. He was a past officer of Elks Home Association and past president of the Northeast Central District of Elk Lodges. He was a member of Bower Memorial United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his widow, the former Janice Davie; daughters: Mrs. John Phillips, Westover Air Force Base, Springfield, Massachusetts; Mrs. Donald Middleton, Reynoldsville; Kay, at home; three grandchildren; sisters: Mrs. Kenneth Earnhart and Mrs. Douglas McClellan, Philadelphia.
Funeral will be Monday, at 2 from Robert N. Hindman Funeral Home, 201 West Second Street, Berwick, with Rev. Charles R. Murray, pastor of Bower Memorial UM Church, officiating. Interment in Elan Memorial Park, South Centre Township.
