Janice D. (Davie) Lanning, age 89, of Buckhorn died on Monday evening, March 14, 2016, at home with her daughter by her side and under the care of Geisinger-Columbia Montour Hospice. Janice had been a resident of Columbia County her entire life.

Janice was born on Friday, Sept. 10, 1926, in Berwick, a daughter of the late Ralph and Myrtle (Geiger) Davie. Throughout her younger years, Janice attended Berwick-area schools, and later graduated from Berwick High School in 1944. In August 1944, Janice married her loving husband, Veryl E. Lanning, formerly of Berwick. In addition to raising her three daughters, Janice worked outside the home for Wise Foods Inc.; a foreman at Bercon Packaging Inc., in Berwick, and a manager of the Ladies Department in the former Ames in Berwick, retiring in 1996. She continued to work after retirement, operating D&L Creative Designs with her daughter, selling products throughout many of the local craft shows. Janice, along with her sister, owned their own baby and toddler clothing store, making all the garments by hand.

Janice was a member of the Ridge Street United Methodist Church in Almedia for many years. She was also a member of the Hemlock Homemakers; Columbia Red Roses Red Hats; Dames of Malta, and the Berwick Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge 1138. Janice will always be remembered by her family for her avid “green thumb” in gardening and her canning talents. She was also very talented as a seamstress, making all the clothing for her family.

In addition to her parents, Janice was also preceded in death by her beloved husband of 33 years, Veryl E. Lanning, who passed on Sept. 30, 1976; a grandson, Carlton Middleton, and a brother, Randall Davie.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Phillips of Beuford, S.C.; a daughter with whom she resided, Dawn Lewis of Bloomsburg; and a daughter, Kay Marie Litman and husband, the Rev. William Litman, of Lebanon; three granddaughters: Theresa Phillips, Shanin Copeland and Abbie Litman; four grandsons: John Phillips Jr., Aaron Litman, Nathaniel Litman and Noah Litman; two great???granddaughters: Samantha and Shelby; five great???grandsons: Alexander, Xavier, Gabriel, Elijah and Phillip; and a sister, Bernice Whitenight of Lansing, Mich.

At the request of the family, all viewings and funeral services will be held privately. Janice will be laid to rest beside her husband in Lime Ridge
