Hollis W. Ballew, manager of the Hollywood Theatre since 1978 and projectionist at the theatre for 30 years, died of a heart attack Tuesday at his home. He was 57.
Mr. Ballew was born in Clarendon, Texas. He lived in Amarillo and Littlefield, Texas; and in the Vanport and northwest Portland areas after relocating to Oregon in 1943. A resident of Northeast Portland since the 1950's, he was a member of the Hollywood Boosters and of IATSE Projectionists Union Local No. 159.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Leonard F. "Fred" Ballew and Lillie V. Marshall Ballew; and brother-in-law, Louis Vigna.
He is survived by his wife, Maryann; daughters, Janice, Barbara, Annette, and Lenore, and sons Craig and David, all of Portland; sister, (Ona) Aileen Vigna of Amarillo, Texas; niece, Phyllis Bradley Boone, and grand niece, Alatia Bradley, of Dallas, Texas.
Funeral will be at 11am Friday (31 Aug 1984) in Ross Hollywood Chapel with interment in Lone Fir Cemetery at noon.
