Funeral services were held Monday, January 15, for Edward A. Zessin Sr., who died at his home January 11 at the age of 86 years. He had been in failing health for some time.
Services were held at Immanual Lutheran Church at 2 p.m. with Lay Pastor Clifford Swanson officiating. Mrs. William Blank was soloist and Becky Ogan, organist. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronald Rousch, W. G. Whitford, William Gottberg, Robert Zipf, Verl Nahrstedt and Paul Robertson.
Edward A. Zessin, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Zessin, was born in Omaha, Nebr. October 21, 1881. When he was four years old, the family moved to Madison where Mr. Zessin spent the rest of his life. He attended Fremont Normal College and Boyles College of Omaha. He was a partner in the ownership of the Continental Telephone Company of 25 years. Of late years he operated and managed his own farm interests.
On January 1, 1917 he was married to Martha Fricke. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1967.
Mr. Zessin had been a volunteer fireman for many years and served several terms on the City Council and the Board of Education, Madison Cemetery Board and the Soil Conservation Service Board. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served as its treasurer of many years.
He is servived by his wife, Martha, two sons, Robert of Littleton, Colo.; three daughters, Emmelene of Wheatridge, Colo., and Mrs. Eva Paden of North Bend, Nebr.; one sister, Emma Zessin of Madison and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and infant granddaughter.
