Mr. and Mrs. Pierce R. Edwards were killed in an auto wreck near the Dr. Young farm last Wednesday night at 7:30 as they were returning home from a trip to Burnside where they had been to take their son, Herman Edwards, and wife, who had been visiting them. They were being driven home by their nephew, Stanley Dalton, when, on hitting some loose rock, the car swerved and Mr. Edwards opened the door and attempted to get out when the boy lost control of the car and it ran into an embankment, killing both Mr. and Mrs. Edwards instantly, and breaking a number of ribs for young Dalton.
Their remains were brought here then returned to their home for funeral services and burial at the Pleasant Hill Church at 11 am Friday, where the services were conducted by the Rev. R.C. Barrow of the First Baptist Church of Monticello in presence of a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends.
Pierce Edwards was born at Powersburg, October 16, 1872, a son of Jabe and Elizabeth Littrell Edwards. He taught a number of schools and was a Magistrate and a member of the County Board of Supervisors and County Board of Education for many years. He was one of the county's best citizens and as such was a man who numbered his friends by his acquaintances, and all were deeply shocked to hear of his and his good wife's untimely passing.
Mrs. Edwards was Miss Drilla Bertram, a daughter of Reuben and Anna E. Hancock Bertram of Sunnybrook. She was born November 29, 1879 and was held in the highest esteem by all her acquaintances.
Surviving them are two daughters, Mrs. E.C. Dalton and Mrs. Ernest Dalton, and one son Herman.
