Born and grew up in the Bunger community, one of eight children of William Johnson who came to Texas from West Virginia in 1872, and his wife, Nancy Fore Johnson of Gooseneck.

William and Nancy Johnson moved to Graham in 1907 to provide for better schooling for their children. When Ben was 21, he moved to Dalhart, Texas and worked for the XIT Ranch.

Ben Johnson returned to Bunger and married Eunice Mae Harkey on 23 December 1906. Five children were born to this union, one died in infancy. The surviving children were: Harry Donnell, Lois, Louise and Robert Arthur Johnson. His wife died in 1918 during the flu epidemic.

Ben Johnson owned a hardware business in Eliasville and later opened a hardware and furniture business in Graham. He was a retired farmer.

In 1920, Ben married Miss Bertie Davis of Denton, who had been teaching in the elementary school in Graham since 1914. To their union, three children were born - G.B., Jr., Eunice Mae, and Ed B. Johnson.

Ben Johnson was elected County Clerk and served three - two-year terms.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survived by four sons - H. Donnell Johnson, Robert A. Johnson, George Benjamin Johnson, Jr. and Ed B. Johnson; three daughters - Mrs. Ivan P. Oliver, Mrs. J.D. Craft, and Mrs. Garth Baker; three sisters - Mrs. Henry Schlittler, Miss Kate Johnson and Miss Ethel Johnson; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.
