A very loving and greatly loved mother and grandmother, Clora Virginia Fore Nelson, of Pearland, Texas, passed away October 19, 2023, in Houston, Texas at the age of 96 with her family by her side.

She was born July 9, 1927 in Graford, Texas to William Silas Fore, Sr. and Jennie Wilson Fore. She grew up in Graford and graduated from high school there in 1944. Virginia went on to college at Texas State College for Women (now Texas Women's University), where she earned a B.S. degree in Elementary Education in 1948.

Virginia took a teaching position in Port Arthur, Texas where she lived in a boarding house with other young women. One of those women set her up with a blind date, at which time she met her future husband. Virginia married Jess William Nelson, Jr. in June of 1952 at her parents' home in Mineral Wells, Texas.

They made their home in Houston and with the permission of their landlord, they upgraded their small first apartment by adding a fancy-at-that-time window air conditioning unit. They later bought a home, the only one on their street with a two-car garage. Jess and Virginia welcomed to that home two sons, whom they raised with great love. Virginia took pride in being a wife and mother, helping her children with homework and projects, serving as a school room mother and a Boy Scout mom, and going on family campouts. She also enjoyed her work as a substitute schoolteacher and later as an employee of Majors Bookstore.

While her primary activity was being a loving and ever-present wife, mother, and grandmother, she also took up genealogy. She was a determined, thorough, and meticulous researcher and recordkeeper, and has left her family a wealth of family records and stories. Based on her ancestry research, she became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy.

When not at her computer, she loved watching the flowers, birds, squirrels, raccoons, and opossums outside her breakfast room window, watching football and baseball on TV, and sharing stories with family and friends. She always took an interest in her family and friends and their well-being, checking on them and offering food and assistance whenever she could.

She was a loving, supportive presence in our lives and an admirable woman. She will be greatly missed.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and her siblings—Lena Belle Fore, Murnelle Fore Clark, William Silas Fore, Jr., and half-brother, Edward Mont Fore, Sr. She is survived by her sons, Rick Nelson (Linda Bly) of Pearland, TX and Steve Nelson (Sherry) of Missouri City, TX, and grandsons, Cole Nelson of Friendswood and Sean Nelson of Houston. She was buried on Monday, October 30, 2023 in the family plot at the South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.
