Marian Louise Claborn Rogers, of Newport, Lincoln County, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, 07 November 2007, at her residence, following complications resulting from a brain aneurysm and strokes suffered earlier this year. Formerly a resident of Alaska, she was 70 at the time of her passing.

Mrs. Rogers was born on Wednesday, 14 July 1937, to Enoch Merle Claborn and Edna Lera Watkins Claborn, in Zephyr, Brown County, Texas.

She was united in marriage to William Sherrod Stover on Sunday, 15 June 1958, in Brownwood, Brown County, Texas. To their union were born two children: Patricia Lynn and Brian Alan. William and both children preceded Marian in death on Saturday, 15 April 1978, in a tragic plane accident. They were married 20 years.

As a widow, Marian was united in marriage to former Fairmont resident, James K. Rogers on Saturday, 02 September 1978, in Hawaii.

She graduated from Howard Payne University, Brownwood, Texas, with a Bachelor of Science degree and taught in the Dallas and San Antonio school districts. She was an insurance agent and licensed airplane pilot with a love for all things outdoors including gardening, hiking and skiing.

Her family recalled that Marian had a genuine love for animals and nature. Those who knew her describe her as a generous, caring, modest and totally unselfish person.

Husband Jim said, "Our courtship and marriage was like a story book romance. Words can never express how very much I'll miss her.

"Marian was always first and foremost a lady. She was thoughtful, and compassionate. Her gentle, kind and loving spirit exemplified the beautiful lady she was. Marian's grace, eloquence and radiant smile won the hearts of many people. An accomplished pianist, Marian often expressed her spirituality through singing and playing her favorite hymns. Fond of adventure and new cultures, Marian traveled extensively in the United States, and numerous foreign countries."

At her death she was a member of Pleasant Home Methodist Church in Pleasant Home, Ore. Marian lived in the Anchorage area from 1968 until 1980, and maintained several Alaskan friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband William Sherrod Stover, daughter Patricia Lynn Stover, son Brett Alan Stover, and sister Wanda Merle Claborn Lockridge.

She is survived by her adoring husband of 29 years, James K. Rogers of Newport; his daughter, Valerie Rogers of Honolulu; and his three stepchildren; Marjorie A. Crain and husband George of Anchorage, Brian Rogers of Chugiak, Linda Libertini and her husband John of Bellingham, Wash.; brother-in-law, Lee Royce Lockridge of Lubbock, Texas, and his two daughters, Roxanne Carter of Canyon, Texas, and Melanie Fletcher of Topeka, Kan.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. Her ashes will be scattered in Cook Inlet near Anchorage, where her children were lost in an airplane accident with their father, Dr. William Sherrod Stover on Saturday, 15 April 1978.

The family suggests memorial donations to Samaritan Pacific Hospice, Memorial Donation, PO Box 945, Newport, OR 97365.
