Mrs. Denton, a Columbus native, attended Mississippi University for Women in Columbus. She taught elementary school in Clinton and Utica. She later moved to Raymond and taught at Hinds Community College, retiring in 1971. She was a former president of the culture club. She was appointed to the Mississippi Arts Commission by Gov. John Bell Williams and was honored by having the art building at Hinds Community College named after her. She was a member of Raymond United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: daughter, Betty Furstenberger of Clinton; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Lowe of Jackson.
