Clayton Walkup, age 84, of Kendallville, died on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at North Ridge Village Nursing & Rehab Center in Albion. Born in Crawley, West Virginia on April 13, 1923 to Charles and Birdie Armitta (Keyes) Walkup. Both parents have preceded his death. He married Ella Louise Osborne on August 15, 1947 in Crawley, West Virginia and she preceded his death on January 31, 2003.

Mr. Walkup was a WWII United States Army veteran and expert marksman. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Lady Lake, Florida, and retired from Auburn Gear in 1988. He loved spending time with his family, playing cards, hunting and fishing, and playing golf. He also enjoyed taking care of his yard and flowers and gardening.

Survivors include: Daughter, Brenda and Ed Froelich of Kendallville. Daughter, Kathy Zimmerman of Kendallville. Two Grandsons, Todd Froelich of Kendallville and Arthur Allen of Wisconsin. Two granddaughters, Amy and Neal Sloffer of Fort Wayne and Stacy and Brian Natkin of Witchita Falls, Texas. Three great grandchildren, Abigail, Zachary and Mackenzie Sloffer all of Fort Wayne. Sister, Ruth Hall of Belle, West Virginia. Sister-in-law, Pearl Walkup Schmader of Kendallville. Many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death his daughter, Barbara Allen, October 31, 2004, and his grandson, Shane Zimmerman, June 25, 1982.

Services were entrusted to Hite Funeral Home of Kendallville, Indiana.
