Mrs. Payne Smith Dies Early Friday
Funeral Services Are Planned For Monday


Mrs. Nannie Smith died early Friday morning at the Union township residence of her nephew, Custer Baker, where she has made her home for the last eight years.

Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. at the Vandivier Funeral Home, 951 N. Main Street. Friends may call there Sunday afternoon and evening and until the services Monday. The Rev. Richard Kilgore of Providence Christian church will conduct the rites; burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith was born in Union township August 24, 1869, the daughter of James Polk and Rachel Ann Doty Badgley. She was married to Payne Smith, in 1902. She spent her entire life in Johnson county, most of it in Union township, the wife of a farmer. After her husband's death in 1940 she lived in Franklin for ten years. Bedfast and blind, she was then taken to the Baker home where she was cared for in that condition until her death from a coronary occlusion.

Mrs. Smith had been a member of Christian Chapel church since [sic] hes youth; was past worthy matron of Trafalgar O. E. S. ; and at the time of her death, she was a member of Bargersville O. E. S.

Throughout the nine years of her affliction, which followed a life of hard work in her beloved farm home, she was always cheerful and patient, interested in family and friends.

She is survived by two brothers, James Badgley of Indianapolis and [sic] Aden Badgley of Shelbyville.
