He graduated from Robstown High School, and Texas A & I University in Kingsville in 1951. Charlie was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He retired from Suntide (Koch) Refinery and was a Commander of the Disabled American Veterans organization.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Cleta Mae Hale Petri; his daughter, Sandra Kay Dodd; his brother, Francis G. Petri; and his sister, Hazel Waller.
Burial with full military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Odem, Texas.
